What makes a good Writer?
Writing is a passion that comes from within a person. It is a drive that makes someone want to express their thoughts in the written form and makes a person dream of an imaginable world. Writing can be inborn or learnt through practice. The irony of it is that whether inborn or learnt, writing needs practice to perfect.
A writer must have a passion for words, write impeccably and be consistent in their writing. A writer must have the ability to make their words come alive by using imagery and stylistic devices. Writing should be concise and devoid of grammar, punctuation and spelling errors. Writing needs dedication and excellent research skills as it can involve writing on different topics which might not be totally familiar with the writer or need more insight to be comprehensive.
A thirst for knowledge drives a writer to read and write more. This ensures they become creative and are aware of the market, in order to know what the market audiences want. A writer must have an open mind and accept criticism, as both positive and negative criticism is a good foundation for a young writer. This does not in any way mean that a writer who has been on the writing field for long does not need criticism. Criticism drives a writer to always give it their all. It enables them know what to improve on and how their audience perceives their work which is very important because a writer writes for their audience.
A writer must have discipline and write relevant issues, learn by observing the environment in which they live. Natural talent ensures that writers enjoy what they do and have a logical flow of words and most importantly, have perseverance.
Writing is not only for money but is also meant to be informative, thus writers have a social responsibility to write informatively, without bias and ultimately entertain their audience. The best writer writes from the heart and expresses their thoughts without reservation.
